Club: For The Story
Years Running: 2
Section/Region: FL/South
HISTORY:
Started by Brandon Perales (FSU Alum, Vicious Cycle) and Shane Steward (UCF coach 06-08, Vicious Cycle) in the summer of 2007, For The Story became the elite-level open club team out of the Orlando/Melbourne area. The name FTS is still a little ambiguous, but it refers to doing things "for the story". Like...
"If you've gotten drunk at the Saturday night party at Club Nationals in Sarasota, went home with a local girl, only to wake up and have to meet her parents before she drops you off at Sunday finals to receive a Spirit of the Game award... If your last name is used as a metaphor for a drunken hookup, especially if it was a bad decision... If you like to wear shiny gold shorts when playing... If you like to tell phrases like 'Go for the Gold!!!' to make things awkward for your friend that is hitting on a girl... This team is for you!! We do things FOR THE STORY!!"
- Brandon Perales
Hence we pride ourselves in being a competitive team with a wild, fun side.
FTS was looking to base its talent from the "Cinderella college team, UCF, and raw, untested athletes from the Melbourne area." FTS was looking to take the Florida section by storm and make a stong showing at South regionals; being led by ex-Vicious Cycle players (2006 Nationals Quarterfinalists).
Along with Perales and Steward, FTS picked up notable ECU Alum Matt Robinson and a handful of UCF players including Bill Igar, Cameron Amey, Danny Bumgarner, Ken McWilliams, Andrew Roca, Phil Stokes, Morgan Bambace, Ted Barnett, Brian "Laser" Pabst, and Joe Tilley.
Although FTS made a strong showing at sectionals, they could not say the same about regionals; along with a few injuries: Amey (pulled disc in back) and Roca (dislocated shoulder). The young FTS had a hopeful future...
Come summer 2008, talks of a Florida "combo" team meant a loss of the core FTS players. The Florida combo team, Ronin, picked up the best Florida had to offer (Gainesville, Tampa, Orlando/Melbourne, Jacksonville). From FTS, Ronin picked up Perales (who helped captain and start Ronin), Steward, Amey, Igar, Bumgarner, Robinson, Barnett, and McWilliams.
Bambace and Stokes picked up the deteriorated FTS, along with "Ronin Rejects"
Andrew Roca, Ryan "T" Torvik, Brian "Laser" Pabst, and Joe Tilley. It seemed being dropped from Ronin was the best thing for FTS and the future of UCF. FTS picked up UCF Dogs Brandon Geick, Joe Segal, Jon Beilan, and Steve Schade. It now became apparent that FTS would be a haven and a breeding ground for great UCF players such as Mike Hickson.
FTS had a good* sectionals and had a hard fought regionals in Texas; FTS got a good feel or the highly competitive Club experience.
Come summer 2009, FTS will be back and stronger than ever as Ronin was severely disbanded post a unsatisfying showing at Regionals '08. Coming back will be Bill Igar and Matt Robinson. From UCF, the selection is infinite. It seems that FTS will be the premier team in Florida this year, as star players from FSU, FIT, Tampa, and Orlando Rec-League have rumored to show interest.
This year we intend to be a very competitive Club team, looking for hard-working, dedicated, and talented Ultimate players. Of course with summer comes fun, of which we will have a lot; traveling all over the southeast US and maybe even further.
Look here for updated information on try-outs (RUMORED** to be June 6-7).
Have fun and be competitive with FTS (OR WHATEVER NAME WE CHANGE IT TO; IF WE DO SO)!!!!!!!!!!
