Janus 2010 Wrap-Up

The Dogs, Havoc, and Sirens all went to Janus this weekend; showing off all that UCF has to offer with only one week of spring practice under their belts.

Havoc (with low numbers) performed as best they could have despite some injuries on Saturday. Beating SCAD bumped Havoc slightly above last place which truly defines working from the ground up. Havoc has a lot of potential to improve this year and we are all waiting for an upset or two come Sectionals.

Janus was a good start for the Dogs season, however competition will only increase from here... Going 5-0 on Saturday with 2 wins against the Giants, the Dogs battled in zone and through zone during this very windy weekend. Defense was the name of the game for the Dogs, as offense still has a couple kinks to work out. It was quite a site for other teams with loaded sidelines of eager Dog rookies and veterans alike, itching to play. Unfortunately Sunday was a different story as an early loss to Title Town (Gainesville: Janus Champions) kept them out of the final, but the two games after was a time for the rookies to shine and let Coach Bill have a closer look when the game is up to them. The Dogs finished 7-1.

So i'm gonna go ahead a give my mad props for the weekend and for the tournament itself...

Veteran of the Weekend: Charles Andrews
Great defense and some sick rips by the new 22 kept the Dog sidelines pumped and in the game. He certainly led the team at points by putting it all out on the field and letting his newly found swagger do the talking.

Rookie of the Weekend: Taylor Armstrong and Kevin Shields deserve a lot of credit for coming even though they knew they were not playing due to injury. They filmed and threw with us between games and shared all the highs and lows throughout the weekend.

But as for playing, I would like to give credit to Matt Carlson.
Tireless. That's all you have to say when watching Matt play. He put in a lot of effort and in return he saw a lot of the disc. Honorable mention: Nick Pizza

AS FOR THE LADIES!!!!!
SIRENS were crowned champions of the college women's bracket, winning on universe against Fuel (UF). With a solid roster and girls like Tina Hierlkosozzser, Ashley Schmerxzixzer, Leanne Michael Thompson, and Leisha Cavalierro leading the way... This is definitely a great start to the season and Joe Tilley's coaching career. The women battled long and hard (that's what she said), especially in the final, and with phenomenal catches and play by Kayla Wright and sweeeeeet Molly Kovacs, the Women finished out their Sunday with an imaginary Tiara they can hold over the rest of the women in Florida.

UCF certainly made an impact at Janus as 5 of its own were in the Gnomes and Giants game. For the Gnomes, Brandon Geick, Kyle Krumwiede and Joe Segal (Alumni) played above the height of 5'8" and making some sweet throws for Perales and Jimmy Price to pull down.

As for the Giants (who were ahead before the game was called due to weather concern), Andrew Roca and Danny "Nitro" Bumgarner (Alumni) were ripping down anything remotely in the 50:50 range. Roca tallied on some fantasy points with 2 D's, 1 assist and a Skying score, while Danny was just sober enough to throw away a couple before making an improbable layout catch.... that was called back after a travel call.

UCF will be known for sure this year as one of the leading College Ultimate programs in the country... whether it be the Dogs, Havoc or Sirens, we will be known.

P.S. A combine highlight video will be made of all three teams (if we have the enough footage)...
