The 5th Annual Kennel Kickoff ran very smoothly despite the windy weather... And we'd like to thank all the teams, park staff, UCF Women's Team volunteers, and friends/family for coming out, supporting, and cleaning up after themselves. The only thing that didn't go as planned were the games themselves... upsets galore. Where UCF-Y had an unfortunate weekend and FIT had a solid seed-breaking weekend.
The Florida B split squads put up a fight in all their games and eventually landing in both sides of the semi's. 1 seed Emory falls short to 3 seed UCF-X that played an tireless Saturday. Meeting UCF-X in the finals was FSU's A-team.
No matter how hard UCF-X fought, the DUF train rolled and depth hurt UCF-X. But where UCF lacked in depth, the surely made it up in effort. All rookies and vets alike left it all on the field.
Final Score:
FSU 11 - UCF(X)7
And for your amusement and pleasure (with help from Leanne and Leisha filming) I've made a solid "Bad News Dogs" blooper video... LOLfest.
PS> A highlight video from this weekend is soon to come... just had to get the fun stuff outta the way first!
~~~~~~> NopY out.
Enjoy...
5th Annual Kennel Kickoff Preview
This coming weekend is the 5th Annual Kennel Kickoff Hosted by UCF, and UCF has expanded this tournament to the biggest Kennel has ever been... 18 teams! Here's a preview of what's to come at this tournament...
EMORY JUICE
Taking the one seed is Emory, despite the loss of two key players; Gainer and "Mr. Timeout" Arvil Nagpal... Not only because they won Kennel last year, but because they have also gained UVA's Robert Runner and Duke's David Berendes, who were teammates on the 2009 Club Championship team out of Atlanta: Chain Lightning. With supporting cast member Matt Wetzel, these three will certainly make some noise, I mean they have to make noise!!! They're the one seed!!!
FSU DUF
The "uber competitive" DUF takes the second seed with a young and talented roster, showing up in the finals of Kennel last year and also having a great season along the way. The loss of Ryan "Rook" Thompson puts a dent in there handling and defensive core, but standout Daniel Petronio will most likely find a way to fill the gap with young, new talent and a supporting cast eager for competition.
UCF X and Y
UCF tryouts start THIS WEEKEND and the seperation of the teams will keep the focus on rookies and B-teamers in hopes they will impact the team. With captains Andrew Roca and Jeff Surmin separated, the teams will definitely have a fighting chance against any and all opposition. With standout vets Brandon Geick, Quint Wharton and AC Freshman of the Year Michael Hickson, the Dogs both X and Y will definitely be a thorn in everyone's paw. Be sure to see some stellar plays from vets and rookies alike... this I can assure you.
KENNESAW STATE BIDNESS
I don't know much about Bidness, but from their last season results and their past history I'm sure every game will be surprising...
USF SCALLYWAGS
The Scallywags are not to be counted out this year despite the loss of club foundations such as Roeland and Thomas Reyniers as well as Stuart Richards... because Captain Seth Richards still makes things possible with precise throws and annoying defense. With some solid rookies last year and most likely impressive ones this year, I'm sure USF will break seed...
UM Willy Willies
The Willy Willies are coming and there in town to beat rivals USF, UCF, and UF-B. A early jump on these teams will really set the tone for UM for the rest of the year... and if Luke Fitzpatrick and Captain Steven Root have anything to say about it, then we might see an upset or two...
FLORIDA-B (X and Y) HIGH LEVEL
High Level and Gainesville in general, always seem to have a great recruiting pool and Florida-B always seems to impress. As long as they have Southern's MVP and Callahan Nominee TJ "VIO" McCourt with them, I'm sure they will do just fine! I heart you TJ.
There are also B-teams and newcomers to Kennel such as FAU, Eckerd, FGCU, Rollins, and a Naval Nuclear Power School! I'm not educated on them, but I will make an educated guess that at least one will upset somebody.
WILDCARD PICKS
FIT and Valdosta State. FIT has some talent and Valdosta State is from outside of Florida so they have a fighting chance.
